CFP at the 5th Joint Workshop of European IFIs and the ECB

The Chair of the Portuguese Public Finance Council (CFP), Nazaré da Costa Cabral, and the Staff Director, Carlos Marinheiro, participated on 24 September in the 5th Joint Workshop of the European Independent Fiscal Institutions and the European Central Bank (ECB), held in Frankfurt under the theme “Balancing the Books: Fiscal Sustainability and Governance with Mounting Spending Pressures”.

The event featured contributions from experts and representatives of several institutions, including ECB Vice-President Luis de Guindos, Chair of the European Fiscal Board Pieter Hasekamp, and Chair of the European Network of Independent Fiscal Institutions, Lilia Cavallari.

During the workshop, various studies were presented by representatives of the IFIs of Slovakia, the Netherlands and Croatia, as well as by the central banks of Germany and Greece, the ECB, the European Commission, and the International Monetary Fund. Zsolt Darvas, researcher at Bruegel and Professor at Corvinus University of Budapest, delivered the keynote speech entitled “Public Debt Sustainability in Europe: Constraints and Policy Implications”.
