In the scope of the Cycle of Conferences "The Portuguese Public Finance Council invites to debate", a conference entitled "Climate Change, Economy and Public Finances" will be held on 29 September, organised in partnership with the Department of Economics of the Social Sciences School of the University of Évora.
The conference will start at 2.30 pm at the Main Auditorium of Colégio do Espírito Santo of University of Évora, with the intervention of Hermínia Vilar, Dean of the University of Evora, José Belbute, Director of the School of Social Sciences of the University of Évora, and Nazaré da Costa Cabral, Chair of the Portuguese Public Finance Council.
The event will be divided in two parts. The first panel, with the theme "Sustainable development: environment, economic growth and public finances", will have the presentations of Nuno Gonçalves and Erica Marujo (CFP): Climate change: risks and macro-fiscal challenges; Amílcar Sousa/Francisco Ruano (CFP): Green Budget: good practices and lessons for Portugal; and Sofia Santos (Systemic): Green Budget as a productivity and carbon neutrality accelerator. The second panel, on "Particular aspects of the environmental transition: financing and public spending", will feature a presentation by Alfredo Marvão Pereira: The Economic and Fiscal Dimensions of Decarbonization and its Policy Implications (William & Mary University) and will be moderated by José Belbute, with speakers Annette Bongardt (CICP, University of Évora), Rui Ferreira dos Santos (CENSE, NOVA School of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and Carlos Marinheiro (CFP).
The conference closes at 17h30.
This is the VI Conference of the cycle that began in 2020 and aims to debate some of the most relevant issues for the Portuguese economy and public finances at the beginning of this decade.
The conference will be open to the public.
