
The new members of the Senior Board, the highest body of the Portuguese Public Finance Council (CFP), took office before the President of the Portuguese Parliament, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco. Lorenzo Forni and Patrícia Semião are, respectively, vice-president and executive member of the Senior Board of the CFP, appointed under the joint proposal of the President of the Court of Auditors and the Governor of the Bank of Portugal.
Lorenzo Forni, an Italian national, is full professor of Economic Policy in the Department of Economics from the University of Padua, in Italy, since 2017, and head of Prometeia Associazione Think Tank, also since 2017. He previously worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, USA, and as a senior economist at the Central Bank of Italy in Rome.
Patrícia Semião, has worked at the Ministry of Finance since 2012, and held the position of deputy director-general of the Directorate-General for the Budget since 2017, with responsibilities for coordinating and monitoring activities related to the analysis of Public Finances in the National Accounts perspective, preparing quarterly and annual estimates of the Budget Balance and forecasting for the State Budget and Stability Programme.
The new members of the Senior Board replace Paul de Grauwe and Miguel St. Aubyn whose terms of office have expired. The new mandates are set out in Council of Ministers Resolution no. 186/2024, of December 13th.
The Senior Board is the highest body of the CFP and is responsible for the fulfillment of its mission, the pursuit of its duties, the definition of its plan of activities and the approval of internal regulations. This body is composed of personalities of recognized merit, with experience in the areas of economics and public finance, and with a high degree of independence.
