Patrícia Semião leads open class at Loulé Secondary School

Patrícia Semião, executive member of the Portuguese Public Finance Council (CFP), was invited by Loulé Secondary School to lead an open class titled “Public Finance in Portugal” as part of the 11th-grade curriculum.

During the session, Patrícia Semião addressed the importance of the State Budget as an instrument of economic and social intervention, as well as the various phases of the budgetary process, explaining how the State Budget is structured, drafted, approved, and monitored.

The presentation by the CFP’s executive member also covered the practical application of the concepts of budget balance, current balance, capital balance, primary balance and general government debt, along with their evolution over recent years, and a comparison of Portugal within the context of the European Union.

Examples were provided of various fiscal policy measures and their effects on public finances and the national economy.

The speaker concluded her remarks by addressing the role of the CFP in the independent assessment of the consistency, compliance, and sustainability of Portuguese fiscal policy.
