Chair of the CFP speaks at the 2nd Social Security Congress

The Chair of the Portuguese Public Finance Council (CFP) participated as a speaker at the II Social Security Congress, organised by Almedina on 5 and 6 March in Lisbon.

Nazaré da Costa Cabral was part of the second panel of the congress, on the theme "Basic Social Security Laws, 40 Years Later: The End of History?", which also featured Ana Mendes Godinho, José Silva Peneda, Pedro Mota Soares – former Ministers of Labour and Social Security in different constitutional governments – as well as Fernando Ribeiro Mendes, economist and professor, and Diogo Feio, former MEP.

The conference, which opened with speeches by the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, and the Secretary of State for Social Security, Filipa Lima, provided a space for reflection on one of the fundamental pillars of the welfare state and national cohesion. Among the topics highlighted were the future of the social security system in the face of existing economic and demographic challenges, immigration and its impact on the system, individual savings, pension funds and the challenges of institutional governance.
