Nazaré da Costa Cabral took office today as chair of the CFP' Senior Board, starting a seven-year term.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the Salão Nobre of the Portuguese Parliament and was attended by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, that made a speech, the President of the Court of Auditors, the representative of the Governor of the Bank of Portugal, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance.

In her speech, the chair emphasized the "valuable heritage" left by the outgoing president, Teodora Cardoso, pledging to "know how to protect" this legacy.

Nazaré da Costa Cabral also argued that "financial discipline makes it possible to create budgetary security cushions and ensure the right amount of flexibility that public finances also need."

The economist emphasized that the CFP's role is "to ensure compliance with budgetary rules (...) thus contributing to greater transparency, accountability and soundness" of democratic institutions.
