Rui Nuno Baleiras participated in the Conference "Taxation and Regional Competitiveness"

Rui Nuno Baleiras, the Executive Member of the Portuguese Public Finance Council, addressed the audience of the conference on “Taxation and Regional Competitiveness”, held in Madeira on the 29^th April 2015. The event was jointly organised by the Tax and Administrative Court of Funchal and the Chamber of Chartered Accountants. The address was about public governance principles regarding the relationship between public finance and economic development policy in the framework of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

Throughout four panels, several issues linking taxpayers, tax administration and tax courts were discussed. The major institutional addresses were made at the opening ceremony, by the Chair of the Supreme Administrative Court, António Almeida Calhau, and the closing ceremony, by the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, who stressed the role of the International Business Centre for Madeira’s economy.

The Executive Member held a few contacts with the regional government on public finance issues.
