The Portuguese Public Finance Council (CFP) believes that the publication of the Notebook on “Public Debt” is timely given the current concerns regarding the high level public debt and the CFP’s mission to contribute to citizens’ knowledge.
In this Notebook, the CFP seeks to answer interrogations related to the several public debt definitions, how is it calculated, the debt scope, as well as the factors that influence changes in public debt, namely why is the increase in debt not equal to the fiscal deficit.
The series CFP Notebook comprises short, non-specialist texts dealing with subjects related to the specific mission of the CFP. These aim at helping interested parties understand and make informed judgment on the matters related to public finances.
